|Description||Columbia University in the City of New York is seeking an Associate Director of Communications.
BASIC FUNCTION: Reporting directly to the director of communications and special projects, the associate director oversees written and electronic communications for Columbia College (CC) and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) events, projects and programs. The associate director will serve as a communications adviser to Central Projects and Programs special events team and to other Student Affairs units, as required by the director of communications and special projects. The associate director will be a partner in conceptualizing, proposing, and executing communications strategies as they relate to events, branding, public relations, internal communications, and digital and online communications and will also play a lead role managing projects for the dean of student affairs in order to adequately advertise events and services, promote key messages, achieve organizational goals, and influence target audiences.
A. Event Communications. Manage the communications aspect of special events for the Dean of Student Affairs Office, including deans' initiatives (receptions, lunches, and meetings), dinners, ceremonies, and other events as assigned. Working with the director of communications and special projects, develop communications strategy, assist in communications meetings, and identify communications priorities. Serve as a member of a team which produces written and electronic communication for divisional events and activities such as Class Day, Family Weekend, and Family Orientation.
B. Programmatic Support. Supports communications needs of Student Affairs programs, including strategic planning, writing, editing, design, and production. Examples include marketing materials, scripts, programs, presentations, branding, media outreach, and overall communications approach. Provides guidance and, where appropriate, approval. Establishes relationships with Student Affairs staff to create efficient processes and build consistent communications practices and design across units. Supports and reinforces Student Affairs brand and style guidelines.
C. Dean's Office Communications and Publications. Assist with dean of student affairs mailings, email, and other internal and external communications efforts, including the production of divisional newsletters and other publications, as assigned. Responsible for keeping department website up to date and reflective of accurate event information.
D. Internal Communications. With guidance from director of communications and special projects, oversees internal communications for Student Affairs. Performs research, develops strategy, and implements tactics to ensure informed and engaged staff across Student Affairs units. Develops plan that incorporates numerous and innovative touch points including print, online, face-to-face, and multi-media. Partners with human resources and other units to assess needs and manage comprehensive internal communications plan across Student Affairs. Supports initiatives such as divisional retreats and meetings, staff orientations, and trainings. Manages internal communications calendar and ensures accurate, frequent, and appropriate communications.
E. Other: Perform other related duties as assigned.
